Kelsey Nixon got her start in the food media industry when she created her own college cooking show, Kelsey's Kitchen, emphasizing fast, fun and affordable meals. Over the course of two years, she had produced and hosted 100 episodes featuring recipes that were simple yet satisfying.
After graduating with a degree in Broadcast Journalism from Brigham Young University, Kelsey attended Le Cordon Bleu - Hollywood, where she earned her professional culinary arts degree. This degree paired with training from the French Culinary Institute provided internship opportunities at Martha Stewart Living and on Food Network's Semi-Homemade Cooking with Sandra Lee. Kelsey was a finalist on season four of The Next Food Network Star where she made it to the top four and won the "Fan Favorite" vote. Kelsey made her Cooking Channel debut with Kelsey's Essentials in November 2010 where she inspires a new generation of food lovers with her own fresh take on essential cooking basics. She gives savvy tips on must-have pantry items, the latest gadgets and essential kitchen techniques like roasting, baking, and knife skills. Whether she is sharing unique entertaining tips and food gift ideas or classic yet sophisticated recipes for sauces, stews, and eggs, Kelsey is a master at using the basics to create dishes that are anything but ordinary. She targets the DIY home cook - breaking down the steps, teaching proper technique and making everyone feel comfortable in the kitchen. Her fifth season of Kelsey's Essentials premiered in July 2013 where she takes viewers beyond the kitchen for exciting new takes on the culinary basics. Kelsey's first book, Kitchen Confidence (Crown Publishing Group), will be released February 2014.
